Sam Querrey v David Ferrer Head to Head

The players have met on three occasions on the ATP tour with Ferrer winning twice.

Querrey Looking for Resurgence

Big serving American Sam Querrey, was world number 11 in late 2017-early 2018 and his game has fallen considerably since then. He is currently number 68 in the world as a result of 2018 seeing some indifferent form, early losses and intermittent injury concerns.

Querrey will be best remembered for beating Novak Djokovic in the 2016 Wimbledon third round, and following it up in 2017, defeating Andy Murray in the Wimbledon quarter-finals. Other impressive showings that year, saw him rise up the rankings. With a powerful serve and an improved forehand, Querrey was hoping to be consistently ranked in the top 10-15 players on the ATP circuit.

However, after a dismal 2018, Querrey will be looking to reinstate the belief and confidence that saw him move up the rankings in 2017. A strong showing in Miami will be a step forward in that direction for the American.

Ferrer on Farewell Tour

Evergreen David Ferrer is in his farewell season, having mentioned that the Madrid Open this summer will be his last tournament. Former world number three has been given a fitting goodbye by several of the tournaments on the ATP tour in recent months and expect no less at the Miami Open.

Known for his grit, resolve, and fighting spirit, the 36 year old has had a career that coincided with that of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray.

Yet the Spaniard has been endearing to all tennis lovers, and has left us with many a cherished memory. A clay court specialist, Ferrer evolved into an opponent that was no easy feat for the best of players on any surface.

A shadow of himself from his heydays, Ferrer has still given every tournament his best and will continue to do so in his Miami Open opener, where the conditions and the slower outdoor hard courts should suit his game.

Sam Querrey v David Ferrer Predictions & Tips

It promises to be an interesting match with both players having completely different things to prove. With dissimilar playing styles, we could see a mix of big serves, solid rallying from the back of the court and the ability to attack as and when appropriate.

Ferrer is still capable of grinding down an opponent, and is understandably playing more freely than earlier. Querrey on the other hand will be hoping his serve and forehand see him through crucial junctures. Expect an intriguing battle, with eventually the American winning in three sets.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
