Isner Gunning for a First Title
In the past eight seasons, John Isner has won 16 ATP titles including the Miami Masters last season but this year hasn’t yet been fruitful for him. For a year that hasn’t seen a single player win two titles, something that implies that there have been multiple champions at that level, Isner is yet to win one.
Thrice now this season, Isner has made the semi-finals of tournaments including the New York Open, Delray Beach Open and Acapulco Open but failed to proceed beyond. Defeats to Reilly Opelka, Daniel Evans and Nick Kyrgios have all made it a tough bitter for the American to break the puzzle.
He had a first round bye here and will take on a qualifier in his second in what should be a reasonably encounter first up.
Long Way to Go for Lorenzo
For someone with a career-high ranking of 86 and with no ATP titles under his belt it is easy to assume that Lorenzo is one of those whose career has been full of Challenger appearances with the odd main draw ATP showing. This year itself, the Italian appeared in three main draws of ATP tournaments, including the ATP Buenos Aires, ATP Rio and ATP Sao Paulo, with a progress to the second round being his best showing in those tournaments.
He has done the same here, at the Miami Masters but this is obviously different in the sense it is a higher-ranking-points tournament, one that has already seen him win two matches in the qualifiers and then the first round encounter against Martin Klizan, all of which he has won in straight sets.
