David Goffin v Pablo Andujar Head to Head

The two have met twice before, although both matches were back in 2012. In the first match, played on Andujar’s favourite surface of clay in Barcelona, it was the Spaniard who won. However, Goffin got his revenge shortly afterwards on the hard courts of Valencia.

Goffin Needs to Find His Winning Touch Again

It would be fair to say that Goffin has had a poor year to date. Probably his best performance came in Marseille where he reached the quarter-final before losing to the eventual winner, Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

He also got to the third round in Melbourne. However, beyond that, there have been plenty of early exits from tournaments, including Indian Wells where he was beaten in the second round by Serbian Filip Krajinovic.

To try and find some form he entered the Challenger event in Phoenix last week, but a third round defeat to Italian Salvatore Caruso was hardly the boost to confidence he was seeking. Andujar isn’t the kind of opponent that should scare him but it’s some confidence he would be looking at from this one.

Andujar, Spanish Clay Court Specialist

World number 88 Andujar has only taken his place in the tournament because of the withdrawal of Italy’s Andreas Seppi. He is best known as a clay court player with all eight of his senior ATP finals – four wins and four losses – coming on that surface.

His best result of 2019 so far came in the Challenger event in Santiago, where he reached the semi-final, but he will have taken a huge amount of encouragement from his victory over the big-serving veteran Ivo Karlovic in his first round match on Friday.

Goffin v Andujar Predictions & Tips

Despite his poor recent form, Goffin is a heavy odds-on favourite at 1/6; Andujar meanwhile is priced at 29/5. If Goffin could have hand-picked an opponent to ease him into this tournament, then it would have been the Spaniard, and he should win with ease.

Tip: Goffin to win 2-0: 2/5 (bet365)
