Ashleigh Barty v Samantha Stosur Head to Head
The two ladies have met only once on the tour and coincidentally, that meeting took place in Miami itself back in 2017. Stosur won that match in straight sets to reach the third round.
Barty Looking Confident this Season
Ash Barty’s performance this season has been quite brilliant. She arrived in Miami with a win-loss record of 12-3. Even though she hasn’t won a singles title yet, Barty has consistently reached the latter rounds in most of the tournaments this year.
She was the runner-up in Sydney and followed it with a quarterfinal run in the Australian Open, losing to Petra Kvitova in both the cases. However, in these events, she made some big strides against the likes of Simona Halep, Elise Mertens, Kiki Bertens, and Maria Sharapova.
The young Aussie also won both of her Fed Cup ties against the American side and soon followed it with a fourth-round stint in the Indian Wells. Courtesy of her superb form, she reached her career-best singles ranking as World No. 11.
She has had a considerable amount of success on the doubles circuit, winning the US Open Women’s Doubles title last year with Coco Vandeweghe. In the same year, she also won a couple of singles titles – the Nottingham Open and WTA Elite Trophy.
Stosur’s Best Performance of the Season
Stosur, who is 12 years elder to Barty, has just delivered the best performance of the year as a singles player. After a highly disappointing Australian Open series, she moved on to incur early losses in Doha and Indian Wells too.
In Miami, however, she has had a rather good run so far, starting with Evgeniya Rodina in the first round. Then, she dispatched the number 17 seed Madison Keys with 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
This is the first time since the WTA Gstaad last season that Stosur has reached the third round of a WTA event on the singles circuit. The emphasis on singles circuit comes because, in the same duration, Stosur won the doubles title Hong Kong Open and the Australian Open, partnered with Shuai Zhang.
