Stefanos Tsitsipas v Denis Shapovalov Head to Head
The two players have met twice thus far and split the honors. Both these matches came in 2018, with the first one seeing Shapovalov winning a straight-setter at the Australian Open before Tsitsipas had his revenge on clay at Monte-Carlo.
Tsitsipas Aiming for Another Deep Tournament Run
Greek ‘Next Gen’ Stefanos Tsitsipas has had a phenomenal last twelve months, breaking into the top ten of the ATP rankings. With a strong 2018, followed up by a great start to the season in 2019, Tsitsipas has become a force to reckon with on the tour now. A semi-final showing at the Australian Open, was followed by an ATP 250 title at Marseille, and an ATP 500 finals appearance at the Dubai Open.
Tsitsipas had an early departure at the Indian Wells Masters, some of which he alluded to too much tennis of late. He has since made a strong comeback at the Miami Open winning his first two matches with considerable ease. With some key departures in his half of the draw like Marin Cilic and Alexander Zverev, Tsitsipas will be hoping for a deep run this week in Miami.
Shapovalov Hoping to Continue Strong Recent Form
Canadian Denis Shapovalov is another member of the ‘Next Gen’, who is still only 19 years of age. With exceptional flair and talent, Shapovalov has impressed many a tennis expert since he burst onto the scene, in the Fall of 2017. His results and form thereafter haven’t been the most consistent, indicative of him still needing some time to mature.
Shapovalov has had a good run in the last few weeks with a convincing victory over Marin Cilic in Indian Wells, and blazing past his fellow young compatriot Andre Rublev in the previous round here. With an attacking game, the US outdoor hard courts are well suited to his style of play.
Tsitsipas v Shapovalov Predictions & Tips
This promises to be a great clash between two exciting Next Gen players with attacking games. Shapovalov has been in good form of late and has the flair and game to attack from the getgo. Tsitsipas has gone from strength to strength on the tour and can beat anyone at the moment. Expect a close battle, but Tsitsipas seems to be more seasoned and should win in two well fought sets.
Tip: Tsitsipas to win 2-0: 2/1 (Betfair)
