Ashleigh Barty v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

The two ladies have met only once in an ITF event. Kontaveit won that match as she leads Barty by a slim 1-0 lead.

Barty on the Edge of Top 10

Ash Barty has delivered one of the best performances of her career in Miami. Starting as the number 12 seed, she moved on to defeat Dayana Yastremska and Samantha Stosur before meeting the seventh seed Kiki Bertens.

The young Aussie trumped Bertens in an epic three-set clash following which, she met Petra Kvitova. Despite trailing behind by 4-0 in the head to head tally to the Czech, Barty overcame all odds and defeated the World No. 2 7-6(6), 3-6, 6-2. That win has also secured her place in the top 10.

This is Barty’s second semifinal of the season, with the other coming in Sydney. Back then, she reached the final but lost to Kvitova. Additionally, the Aussie was also a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and reached the fourth round in Indian Wells.

Kontaveit Delivers her Career-Best Performance

The 23-year-old Estonian has had a wonderful time in Miami. Having made it to the semifinal, she will be eager to go the distance.

She started her campaign in the second round against Amanda Anisimova and then moved on to overcome the likes of Ajla Tomljanovic and Bianca Andreescu. Against Andreescu, it wasn’t a straight-forward win as the Canadian withdrew from the match in the second set.

Following that win, Kontaveit met Su-Wei Hsieh in the quarterfinal where she won in three sets.

This is the first time this season that Kontaveit has made it to the semifinal on the tour. The 2018 Wuhan Open runner-up has not looked this clinical in a considerably long time.

Barty v Kontaveit Predictions & Tips

In terms of form and consistency, Barty has the edge here. Her win-loss record is much superior to Kontaveit’s and there is no doubt that she will start as the favourite here. While Kontaveit has had a superb run in Miami, in the past, she has lost in the early rounds in most of the competitions she participated in.

Nonetheless, the Estonian has a certain edge and can give Barty a run for her money. All in all, an interesting match to follow.

Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Bet365)
