John Isner v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.
Felix’s Best Run of the Career
The 18-year-old Canadian has delivered what is undoubtedly the best performance of his career in Miami. He entered the tournament as a qualifier and moved on to defeat many experienced players like Marton Fucsovics, Hubert Hurkacz, Nikoloz Basilashvili, and finally, Borna Coric.
Felix has had a couple of interesting runs already this season wherein he showed signs of his true brilliance and quality. He was the runner-up in Rio Open and a quarterfinalist in the Brasil Open, losing to Laslo Djere in both the cases.
In Indian Wells a couple of weeks ago, the youngster reached the third round after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas. Auger-Aliassime spent most of his previous season switching between the Challenger and ATP circuit in a bid to build some form and momentum.
He was fairly successful, having won two titles in the former and reaching the final in the Challenger event in Blois, France.
Isner Continues to be Relentless
Isner started the competition as the defending champion and so far, he has done a pretty terrific job. His initial matches were fairly easy as he easily dispatched the likes of Lorenzo Sonego and Albert Ramos Vinolas. In the fourth round, he met Kyle Edmund and once again, he won that match in straight sets.
He faced his first real test in the quarterfinal when he went up against the giant killer Robert Bautista Agut. In two clinical tie-breakers, Isner won the match 7-6(1), 7-6(5).
Interestingly, there has been only one set in the entire tournament so far where Isner hasn’t taken the opponent to a tie-breaker.
It is also refreshing to see Isner play this level of tennis, especially after his rather average start to the year. He arrived in Miami with a win-loss record of 10-6 and gained some momentum only recently. He reached the semifinal in New York, Delray Beach, and the Mexican Open.
Isner v Auger-Aliassime Predictions & Tips
Isner will start this match as the favourite to win. He is light years ahead in terms of experience. Despite a terrific showing by Auger-Aliassime, he is yet to take his form to a level where he can overcome some of the most experienced players on the tour.
Nonetheless, the Canadian will challenge Isner to the fullest and being full of energy, we can expect him to keep up with Isner’s grit to not lose a break.
Tip: Isner to win: 4/7 (Bet365)
