Jelena Ostapenko v Johanna Larsson Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between the two women, but their first encounter on clay. The first two matches, on the hard courts of Auckland in 2016, and Seoul in 2017, were both won by Ostapenko.

Ostapenko, Searching for Any Sort of Form

Latvian Ostapenko has had a poor start to 2019 which has seen her slide down the world rankings, and has so far failed to get beyond the second round of any tournament that she has entered.

However, she will find the clay of Charleston much more to her liking. The 2017 French Open champion will be hoping for an extended run in South Carolina ahead of the European clay court season, and the courts here should suit her game, with its emphasis on cross-court winners and booming shots down the line.

An aggressive player she is likely to dominate the court, the major concern being as to whether she can cut out the unforced errors which can plague her game.

Still only 21 years old, there is still time for her this season to begin to rediscover the form that made her a top-five player in the world barely a year ago.

Larsson, Equally Out of Form

Larsson has had an equally dismal year to date, winning just one individual singles match to date, and that was only by virtue of her opponent defaulting with injury in the first round in Melbourne. It is only in the Fed Cup playing for Sweden that she has enjoyed any form of success.

Currently ranked 69 in the world, the 30-year-old Swede has 2 WTA and 13 ITF titles under her belt, but those all came some time ago, and most of her senior tour success has come in her home event of the Swedish Open.

She has played in this tournament on three previous occasions, bowing out in the first round each time.

Ostapenko v Larsson Predictions & Tips

In this battle of out-of-form players, Ostapenko is the clear odds-on favourite for this match at 2/7, whilst Larsson is priced at 33/10 (bet365) . The Latvian should be too strong for her opponent on Monday, and a comfortable win would do wonders for her confidence and self-belief.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 8/5 (Betway)
