Alexander Zverev v Felix Auger-Aliassime Head to Head

These two players have met once and it was Zverev who claimed the bragging rights in a comfortable win at the Monte Carlo Masters in April this year.

Zverev Produced A Faultless Display In His Opener

Alexander Zverev stepped up his bid a to clinch a place at the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in London with a domineering performance in just 70 minutes to dispatch Frances Tiafoe 6-3 6-2. It was the 22-year-old’s first match since inspiring Team Europe to a third Laver Cup success in Geneva.

The German is currently 11th in the ATP Race To London where he is the defending champion, trailing 8th-placed Matteo Berrettini by only 65 points and with just five weeks remaining of the regular ATP season.

Zverev’s hopes of qualifying have received a major boost since Berrettini lost early in China to the returning Andy Murray. The Hamburg native has endured a very difficult season which has yielded just one singles title this year and almost dashed his aspirations of making it to London.

And being the the second seed this week, he faces a potentially trickier path if he is to emulate his best showing in Beijing when he reached the last four in 2017. He will have to subdue Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round and could run into to the likes of Tsitsipas, Bautista Agut or Gael Monfils.

Auger-Aliassime Snapped A Four-Match Losing Streak

Felix Auger-Aliassime snapped a four-match losing streak on Tuesday when he beat Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas in straight sets. It was also an impeccable display on serve for the young Canadian who won a whopping 91% of first serve points and faced just a single break point throughout the contest.

The 19-year-old has rocketed up the rankings during the first seven months of the season (currently No.20 in the world), but his slide began at his home tournament in the Rogers Cup when he lost in the third round to Karen Khachanov.

He suffered three first-round exits shortly after that including the blockbuster opener at the US Open to fellow Next Gen star Denis Shapovalov. But a renaissance is underway in China, and Auger-Aliassime will be seeking revenge from his straight sets defeat to Zverev in Monte Carlo.

Zverev is looking to put as many points on the board between now and the end of regular ATP season in order to book his spot in London. Given Auger-Aliassime’s recent turbulent run of form, the German is a solid pick here.
