Roger Federer/Rafael Nadal v John Isner/Jack Sock Preview
It’s not often that Federer and Nadal pair with each other when it comes to doubles tennis. They had combined in the first edition of the Laver Cup to defeat Sam Querrey and Jack Sock on the second day of the tournament but this is going to be even more valuable given they face off for three points against Isner and Sock.
The Americans, Isner and Sock might even hold the advantage in this one. The former is a brilliant server, with most number of aces on the ATP tour this season while Sock’s doubles game is one of the best in the business. He coupled up with Nick Kyrgios to beat Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas on the second day and it could really get interesting.
What we think is the Isner and Sock pair will be pushed around, as you would expect from Nadal and Federer but the Americans will still prevail in the third set Super Tiebreaker. What this would mean is they will end up with a lead for the Team World and that’s not something that happens regularly.

Now while all the attention would be on the Nadal/Kyrgios pairing, the match of the day has to be this one. World number two Rafael Nadal has never been stretched so much outside of Novak Djokovic, as Nick Kyrgios has done but that’s not left to their on-court play alone.
Kyrgios has reserved a few comments for the Spaniard outside the court as well and Nadal has rarely taken kindly to them.
It all started with Kyrgios getting the better of Nadal at the 2014 Wimbledon in the round of 16 but the Spaniard then had the better of their exchanges on clay in Rome and Madrid. Cincinnati saw Kyrgios bounce back with a straight-set win in 2017 and earlier this year, at Acapulco, the Aussie won again that led to a volley of words.
Nadal retaliated to register his fourth win in seven matches against Kyrgios at Wimbledon, winning their second round encounter but that just shows a trend. While it’s nigh impossible to take on Nadal in five-setters and on clay, Kyrgios might like it here at an indoor court, in a best of three sets match that has a final set Super Tie-breaker.
