Fabio Fognini v Nicola Kuhn Head to Head
The two players have met only once before, in the 2018 Miami Masters. The Italian won that meeting 6-2, 6-4, to take an early lead in the head to head tally.
Fognini Riding the Monte-Carlo Wave
Foginini is a talented player who has been waiting at the sidelines for a while now, biding his time. Last season, he won three singles titles and also reached the final in Chengdu. On the back of this performance, he made it into the top 20 and now, he is moving closer to the top 10.
Last week, he won the Monte-Carlo Masters – the biggest title of his career, after defeating Gilles Simon, Alexander Zverev, Borna Coric, and Rafael Nadal. Interestingly, before that performance, his win-loss tally was at 3-8.
The Italian spent most of his time on the tour this year losing in the early rounds but now, he is certainly past that and will be keen on maintaining his newly found rhythm. Having enjoyed a bye into the second round, he will start his campaign against a novice player.
Kuhn’s Second ATP Event
Nicola Kuhn, who is currently ranked in the late 200s, received a wildcard to compete in Barcelona. He started his run with a three-set win over Federico Delbonis.
ATP Barcelona is his second main event of the year, third if you consider the Australian Open too. He also featured in the Miami Open but lost to Mischa Zverev in the opener.
Kuhn has spent most of his time this year playing on the Challenger circuit. The best he has done is reaching the quarterfinal in Launceston and Chennai.
Fognini v Kuhn Predictions & Tips
The Italian is light years ahead in terms of experience and form, in comparison to the young Spaniard. Given his recent winning streak and a sensational run in Monte Carlo, Fognini should emerge as the victor here, without any major difficulties. But then again, Zverev was knocked out last evening in a shocking manner, so anything can happen.
