Daniil Medvedev v Egor Gerasimov Preview

One of the stars of the year, and now world number four, Daniil Medvedev plays Belarusian qualifier Egor Gerasimov in the semi-finals at St. Petersburg.

Medvedev came into the tournament having had a phenomenal US hard court season, where he made four finals, played an epic US Open final against Rafael Nadal, and won the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, defeating Novak Djokovic on the way.

The Russian has continued his form with straight sets victories over Evgeny Donskoy and Andrey Rublev, and is now a clear favorite to win his third title of the year.

Egor Gerasimov from Belarus is ranked outside the top 125 in the world, and entered the tournament as a little known qualifier. In what will count as his best run at an ATP tournament probably, he has strung together victories against Lukas Rosol, Adrian Mannarino and more notably, defeated Matteo Berrettini in the quarter-finals.

Gerasimov has surprised all with his run, and will be confident and believe he can keep it going. However, he is now up against Medvedev, who is currently the best player on the tour outside the ‘Big Three’. The Gerasimov run is likely to end in straight sets at the hands of Medvedev.

Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 4/7 with 888Sport

Borna Coric v Joao Sousa Preview

Borna Coric plays Joao Sousa for a place in the final of the ATP 250 at St.Petersburg. The players met for the first time on the grass at Halle earlier this year with Coric winning a tight three-setter in a final set tiebreak.

After a breakthrough 2018, Coric has had a difficult season this year, marred by injuries and poor form, missing out at Wimbledon and pulling out of the US Open after the first round, with injuries. He has come through two difficult matches here, against Marton Fucsovics, and Casper Ruud, and that will have done his confidence a world of good, as he eyes his first title of the year.

Joao Sousa did well to make the round of 16 at Wimbledon defeating Marin Cilic en route, but a dismal US hard court season followed. He has had a strong week here thus far, defeating home favorite Karen Khachanov and then the 2010 champion Mikhail Kukushkin

An interesting battle on the cards awaits us. While Coric will start as a slight favorite, Sousa’s form of late will give him an equally good chance at winning. Expect a tight match with the gritty Croat prevailing in three sets.

Tip: Coric to win in three sets: 16/4 (888Sport)
