This is the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour.
Tsitsipas Eyeing More Glory
The Greek has had a pretty stellar season so far, making it into the top 10 with a win-loss record of 18-8. He won his second singles title in Open 13 in February and followed it with a runner-up feat in the ATP Dubai.
Tsitsipas was also a semifinalist in the Australian Open earlier this year. In the Sunshine Doubles, however, his performance was rather mediocre. His last event was in Monte-Carlo, where he lost in the third round to Daniil Medvedev.
The World No. 8 is a versatile player capable of playing on any surface. The clay surface is particularly intriguing for him, given that he grew up practising tennis on this surface.
Fucsovics Looking to Main More Gains
The season so far has been quite promising for the 27-year-old Hungarian. He reached his career-best singles ranking as the World No. 31 in March after reaching the final in Sofia. In addition to this, he also reached the quarterfinal in Rotterdam and Dubai.
Over the last couple of tournaments, however, his performance took a slight dip and he lost in the early rounds. Fucsovics lost his opening matches in Indian Wells and Miami, while in Monte Carlo, he lost in the second round to Cameron Norrie.
Fucsovics won the first title of his career on the clay, back in the 2018 Geneva Open. He will be keen on repeating that feat again in Barcelona although, he faces a tough task.
Tsitsipas v Fucsovics Predictions & Tips
There is no doubt in the fact that Tsitsipas will start this match as the favourite. While he has had his fair share of rather surprising losses this season, it is hard to imagine the Hungarian delivering an upset right in the first round.
However, Fucsovics is a determined player and can very well challenge the Greek to three sets. He has delivered some impressive results in the past and can seek inspiration from them.
