Angelique Kerber v Kiki Bertens Head to Head
The head to head tally between the two players is currently tied at 2-2. They have met on the clay surface twice and have landed a win each. Coincidentally, both of those matches took place in the French Open.
They last met in the WTA Finals last year, where Bertens powered past Kerber in three sets.
Kerber Gunning for a Third Stuttgart Title
Angelique Kerber started her campaign in Stuttgart with a clinical win over her compatriot Andrea Petkovic. She won the match 6-2, 6-4, to reach the quarterfinal.
The German was the champion here back in 2015 and 2016, making it one of the few clay tournaments that she has conquered successfully. Despite a slow start to the present season, Kerber has found her rhythm over the last few weeks.
She had a major breakthrough in the Indian Wells Open where she lost to Bianca Andreescu in the final. Then, in Miami, she reached the third round and later in Monterrey, she was a semifinalist. Currently ranked as the World No. 5, she is aiming to take her No. 1 crown back but has a long way ahead of her.
Bertens, Formidable on Clay
Five out of eight titles that Bertens won in her career came on the clay surface. She was the runner-up in the Madrid Open last year and since then, has won three singles titles.
The Dutchwoman is a player who cannot be underestimated at any cost. She is in her element when playing on clay and has proven time and again that she can win big. As for her season so far, she won the St. Petersburg Open and reached the fourth round in Indian Wells and Miami.
However, Bertens also lost in the third round in WTA Charleston to Maria Sakkari. Nonetheless, she made up for it in Stuttgart with good wins over Anna-Lena Friedsam and Belinda Bencic.
Kerber v Bertens Predictions & Tips
This is going to be a tricky fixture for the two players. While Bertens has a better win rate on this surface, Kerber has a history in Stuttgart and will be backed by the local crowd. Moreover, two have been in good form this season and can very well push each other to the limits.
Despite this being an evenly matched fixture, Bertens will have a slight edge. However, if Kerber finds her rhythm early in the match, it shouldn’t take long for her to negate that advantage.
