Azarenka Hopes to Get Back to Her Best

Following a poor start to the season, Azarenka came into her own over the two tournaments she played in New York, the Western & Southern Open and the US Open. At the former, Azarenka benefitted from a solid performance to make the final and Naomi Osaka’s injury to lift the title.

This was followed by a brilliant run at the US Open where she reached the final, including a win over Serena Williams from a set down. While she fell in three sets to Osaka this time, it had done enough to push her to world number 14 in the world.

Azarenka’s record on clay hasn’t been as sterling as some of the other surfaces but she looked to have done well to make it to the quarterfinals at the Italian Open. A defeat to Garbine Muguruza there was followed by another early loss at the French Open, ending her run for a while.

Now, with a 20-day break since that defeat, Azarenka would have had time to rest, recuperate and re-assess and move on to the indoor courts. A fairly straightforward second round match to resume her campaign.

Krejcikova Finally Breaks into Top 100

Since turning pro in 2011, Krejcikova’s rise to the top has been steady but since breaking into the top 200 in 2015, she has been stuck there. Between then and 2019, Krejcikova’s ranking has been fluctuating between 115th and 190th, not quite being able to break into the top 100.

Even this season, she began ranked 131st in the world, but a second round entry at the Australian Open pushed her back up. It was after the tennis season resumed following the pandemic break, she has finally been able to make the top 100 thanks to her excellent showing at the French Open.

Making a direct entry into the tournament, she defeated Nina Stojanovic, Barbora Strycova and Tsvetana Pironkova to make it to the fourth round. While she went down to Nadia Podoroska in the fourth, it was enough for her to enter this tournament ranked 85th in the world.

Wins over Kaja Juvan and Jil Teichmann in the qualifiers were followed by an opening win over Tereza Martincova, and while Azarenka would be a test of a different kind, the confidence from her recent form could make this an interesting contest.

Azarenka v Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Azarenka is 1/4 to win this but the youngster could have a few weapons in her arsenal to push the US Open runnerup.

Tip: Games Handicap Barbora Krejcikova +4.5: 10/11 (bet365)
