Brady Makes Comeback Win in Round One

The world number 26 Brady was coming off a surprise first round exit at the French Open and was drawn to play a tricky opening opponent in the form of Dayana Yastremska. When Yastremska won the opening set with two breaks of serve, the writing seemed to be on the wall for the American.

Brady finally found a way to break her opponent late in the second set but while trying to serve out the set at 5-4, she dropped serve again and it went into a tie-breaker. That also proved to be one of fluctuating fortunes with Brady missing a set-point on serve at 6-4 before finally winning it 8-6.

Just as has happened in the past, Brady’s game improved drastically in the final set while Yastremska fell away dramatically. Two breaks of serve is all that was needed as Brady crushed the Kazakh 6-1 in the final set.

This was also Brady’s first win indoors this year, having earlier lost in the first round of the St. Petersburg Open to Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova. She now faces another Russian for a place in the quarterfinal.

Kasatkina Rocks Rybakina’s Boat

Elena Rybakina’s excellent form all year has been tempered by her lack of clinical results following the return to tennis from the pandemic break. That, however, did not stop her from starting off a heavy favourite in her opening round match at the Ostrava Open against Kasatkina.

We had earlier spoken of how Kasatkina would need more than just an odd win to reclaim her glory days when she was a top-10 player. And a win over Rybakina would be a good starting point for her.

That is exactly what transpired. Having earlier made it to the main draw of the tournament with wins over Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Marie Bouzkova in the qualifiers, she then came back from a break down in the first set to win six games in a row and claim the opener.

Rybakina came back for a bit, exchanging four breaks of serve before a decisive one in the eighth game to win the set.

Kasatkina, who had earlier this year made it to the semifinal of the Lyon Open, then overcame a break of her own to break her opponent twice to clinch the match in the three. Can she repeat this against Brady too?

Brady v Kasatkina Prediction and Tip

Brady is 4/9 to win this and 3/1 to do that in three sets, something that could be a likely result here. Kasatkina has shown a tendency to fight but Brady’s brilliance all year should take care of that.

Tip: Brady to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
