Tennys Sandgren v Jiri Vesely Head to Head
The pair have once before in the semi-final of the Challenger event in Prostejov in the Czech Republic in 2017. Vesely won that match in straight sets.

Sandgren Scratching for Form
Sandgren’s best performance of the year came at Melbourne in January where he emulated his 2018 feat by reaching the quarter-final again.
There has been nothing like that level; of performance since, with his best result since lockdown coming in his first tournament back, the Cincinnati open, where he reached the third-round only to lose to Novak Djokovic.
Since then there have been a series of early exits from tournaments, although he did get to the second-round in Paris, only to lose to the little-known Columbian Daniel Elahi Galan Riveros.
There then followed a first-round defeat in St. Petersburg to Russian wildcard Aslan Karatsov, and again last week in the second version of the Cologne Open, beaten in three sets by Pierre-Hugues Herbert of France.

Vesely Coming off a Quarter-Final in Sardinia
Vesely won his second ATP title in Pune, India, back in January.
His best performance since then came two weeks ago where he reached the quarter-final of the Sardinia Open, before eventually losing to the man who went on to win that event.
He began his campaign in Italy with a straight sets win over the Pole Kamil Majchrzak, and then he managed to overcome the Italian clay court specialist and local favourite, Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets.
However, the world 53 Laslo Djere of Serbia proved too strong for him in a match that ultimately came down to serve – the ability to hold and also to threaten the opponent’s. Djere held his serve and was never seriously threatened on it, whereas he managed to convert both the break chances he created, with a service break in each.
Sandgren v Vesely Prediction and Tip
Although Sandgren is the seed and higher ranked player, Vesely might have the edge because of his recent form. The only difference is his results came on clay and indoors, it might be a more even battle.
Tip: Vesely to win a set – Yes: 4/6 (bet365)
