Ugo Humbert v Tallon Griekspoor Head to Head

.The pair have met once before, in an ATP Challenger event in Prague last year. Humbert won their quarter-final in three sets.

Can Local Man Humbert Prosper?

Humbert enjoyed a strong 2020, winning his first two ATP titles, in Auckland and Antwerp, and producing his best ever showing at a Masters’ event, reaching the quarter-finals in Paris at the end of October.

That would have given him hopes of a deep run at the Australian Open. However, having disposed of the Japanese man Yasutake Uchiyama in the first round, he then found himself up against local favourite Nick Kyrgios.

It proved to be an epic battle and Humbert twice had match point. However, the Australian, roared on by the home crowd, fought back from the brink and eventually won in five sets.

Back on home soil, he faced Norbert Gombos of Slovakia in the first round, the world 93.

The first set was routine, with one break of serve enough to give Humbert the edge.

In the second set though, it was he who dropped his serve first. However, he rallied to level three games later and was able to seize two points against the serve in the tie-break to clinch the match.

Tallon, a Dutch Qualifier

Griekspoor spends most of his time on the Challenger circuit, and he failed to qualify for the Australian Open, crashing out of the warm-up event in the Middle East at the second-round stage.

He had more success here in Montpellier where two successive straight set victories, were enough to earn him a place in the main draw against Marcos Giron of the USA, a man ranked 82 places above him in the world. Despite that though, Griekspoor was not intimidated at all, and after saving two break points on his own serve, broke the American to take the first set.

The second set offered more break chances on both sides of the net, but neither man was able to take them, and it went to a tie-break. This time Griekspoor faltered, and Giron capitalised to level.

However, in the deciding set, it was Griekspoor who forced the all-important break, controlling the rest of the match from there.

Humbert v Griekspoor Prediction and Tip

Griekspoor has done well to reach this stage, but Humbert is the higher ranked player and has home court advantage. Their last encounter, though went to three sets, and this match may follow the same pattern.

Tip: Humbert to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
