Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Dominik Koepfer Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 33-year-old Spaniard, and the German, who is seven years younger.

Ramos-Vinolas, Beaten Finalist in Cordoba

Ramos-Vinolas is back in action again after his exploits in Cordoba where he got to the final, only to lose to the surprise package Juan-Manuel Cerundulo, his cause not helped on that occasion by dropping the first serve to love.

He began his campaign in Buenos Aires with what looked, on paper at least, an easy assignment against the world 406, Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune. However, he was given a real fright by the Danish wildcard, who took the first set in 26 minutes, for the loss of just two games.

Ramos-Vinolas began the second set badly as well, dropping his opening service game. But he fought his way back into the match, and clinched the set to force a decider.

Ramos-Vinolas then took control of proceedings with two breaks. The Dane grabbed one of those back, but the Spaniard broke again and was able to finally close out the match.

Koepfer with Historic First Round Win

Left-handed Koepfer achieved a personal milestone on Monday, with his first ever win on the South American clay court circuit, beating the Argentine Thiago Agustin Tirante in three sets.

The German started badly, dropping his serve twice allowing the local man to take the lead. But then he forced one break of his own in the second enabling him to level the match.

In the third set he saved a break pint on his own serve and then began to put pressure on his inexperienced opponent.

And that finally paid off in the ninth game when he converted his second break point.

He then served out convincingly to seal the win.

Ramos-Vinolas v Koepfer Prediction and Tip

The odds heavily favour Ramos-Vinolas because he is an experienced clay court player, whilst it is not Koepfer’s preferred surface. The only advantage that Koepfer may have is if the Spaniard is still tired having got to the final in Cordoba last week.

Tip: Ramos-Vinolas to win: 7/10 (bet365)
