Iga Swiatek v Garbine Muguruza Head to Head

This will be the first encounter between Swiatek and Muguruza.

Swiatek Clinical in Doi Destruction

It took Swiatek some time in the second time but in about an hour and a quarter, she was done with sending another player out in straight sets and proceed to the third round. The Pole registered a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Misaki Doi, despite losing her serve in both the sets.

Never, however, did she look to cede ground to her opponent and the break of serve was never that big a concern.

In the first, the two players exchanged serves to gt to 2-2 before Swiatek broke twice more to claim the set. The second set saw Swiatek start off even more aggressively to go 5-1 up but after failing to serve it out the first time – she was broken to love by Doi – the Pole did not waste her second opportunity and came through easily.

That makes it her sixth successive win on tour, and all of them have been straight-set victories. It was also her ninth win in 10 matches and again, none of those victories have seen her drop a set yet.

It could get to be a different equation against a player in equally good form though.

Muguruza Form Continues with Anisimova Mauling

It took Muguruza slightly longer, about 12 minutes or so, but the scoreline was similar to the Swiatek-Doi match, with the Spaniard defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-2 to enter the third round.

What was not similar was the caginess of the contest, especially in the first set where there were multiple break-points but just one break of serve. Muguruza saved four break-points in the second game but other than that it was Anisimova doing all the running before Muguruza clinched the set off her third set-point.

The second set started with the pair exchanging a pair of breaks, but then Muguruza broke right back to go 2-1 up, and then again in the seventh game to take a 5-2 lead in the encounter.

She had earlier made it past Irina Camelia-Begu in straight sets as well in her opening round but now faces one of her biggest challenges in recent times. The good news for Muguruza is she is coming off an excellent season so far, with two tournament finals under her belt – having lost only to Ash Barty and Petra Kvitova in the process.

Swiatek v Muguruza Prediction and Tip

There is absolutely nothing to choose between these two and that can be seen from what the bookmakers think – both start out at 10/11 to win this. Expecting over 21.5 games in the match or even a third set.

Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 10/11 (bet365)
