Unlike Cirstea, who got lucky due to her opponent’s withdrawal from their clash in the quarters, Kostyuk played a great match against Ana Konjuh of Croatia to book her spot in the last 4 of the tournament.
The Ukrainian made a fine start against Konjuh as she took the first set 7-5, but suffered a minor blip in the second and eventually, the match moved to a third set. In the deciding set, Kostyuk quickly gained control before winning the set and the match with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 scoreline.
Kostyuk, who has made rapid strides on the women’s circuit in 2021, was a finalist in Abu Dhabi, where she was defeated by Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets.
