Caroline Garcia v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

There have been five previous matches played between these two players and Siniakova leads 3-2. Their latest match came in Wuhan in 2018 where Siniakova needed three sets and two tie-breakers to get past her opponent while their only match on clay was at the 2017 Bastad Open where again, Siniakova defeated Garcia.

Four of their five matches have been three-setters.

Siniakova on a High after Serena Shock

Siniakova wasn’t a favourite even in her first round match against Clara Tauson but came through in straight sets. When she then took to court against Serena Williams in round two, the Czech was a rank outsider at 5/2 and not too many expected her to come through anyway.

An hour and 38 minutes later, Siniakova had come through a shock win against the 23-time Grand Slam winner and cemented her second quarterfinal of the season. She had earlier made it that far in Istanbul on clay too.

It wasn’t like Serena didn’t have her chances – she did but not as many as would have liked and even when she did, it was Siniakova’s composure that shone through.

In the first set, for instance, Siniakova was a break-point down in her very first service game but saved it. And then under pressure in the 10th game while serving to stay in the set, Siniakova faced a set-point. She saved it again.

After winning the first tie-breaker, Siniakova lost her serve immediately at the start of the second set, but not only did she break but also repeated that two more times to close out the encounter.

Can she now take a step further and make the semifinals?

Garcia Cruises Past Friedsam

For the first time since making the fourth round at the French Open last season, Garcia carved out two wins in a row on clay to seal her berth in the quarterfinals.

Garcia registered a punishing straight-set win over Anna-Lena Friedsam after having sent out Paula Ormaechea in the opening round.

The Frenchwoman needed an hour and 16 minutes to send Friedsam packing, winning 6-2, 6-4 despite getting broken twice in the encounter. Both breaks, however, came late in the respective sets, by which time Garcia had already taken control of the set.

This quarterfinal berth follows back to back second round losses at Miami and Rome, and she now takes on an opponent who has got the better of her in the past and comes into the match on the high of having stunned Serena.

Can Garcia manage to stay in the encounter?

Garcia v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Siniakova is a favourite but only just at 8/11 while we think Garcia could take her form forward and shade her opponent who might have expended a little more energy in her win over Serena.
