Jil Teichmann v Anna Blinkova Head to Head
Their only previous encounter came in the Italian Open of 2020 and Blinkova had won that one in straight sets on clay.

When Teichmann defeated Elina Svitolina in the first round of the Madrid Open last month, it was a well-made start for the Swiss player on clay for the season.
Unfortunately for her, back to back defeats, at Madrid and Rome have now pushed her back. As a result, she now enters this competition in a bid to not just defend her points from the quarterfinal she made to last season but to also gain enough confidence going into the French Open in around a week’s time.
Teichmann did have an excellent beginning to 2021 though.
After back to back defeats in Melbourne, Teichmann stormed into the quarterfinal at the Phillip Island Trophy, a semifinal in Adelaide and then delivered one of her best career results in Dubai where she defeated Petra Kvitova, Ons Jabeur and Cori Gauff to storm into the last four.
Can she take confidence from those results into the rest of the clay court season including this competition in Strasbourg?

Blinkova Playing First Clay Match of 2021
It’s been a forgettable season so far for Blinkova. Having participated in eight tournaments all year, the Russian has won a mere one main draw match, and lost seven of eight matches in the first round.
Defeats have come to all kinds of players, including those ranked outside the top like Misaki Doi in Adelaide, Tamara Zidansek in Guadalajara and Viktorija Golubic in Monterrey.
More recently in Miami, Blinkova was taken down in three sets by Barbora Krejcikova but since then the Russian hasn’t played a match. None on clay so far, a surface on which she had done last season – making the third round in Rome as a qualifier and the second round of this tournament.
And in 2019, Blinkova had made the final of the Tmava ITF competition before entering the third round of the French Open as well.

While Blinkova starts off as a second favourite – and rightly so at that – she is 5/2 for this and those are some rather long odds for someone who doesn’t have that bad a record on clay. A games handicap looks like a good option.
