Alize Cornet v Kristyna Pliskova Head to Head

The pair have played twice before, and Cornet has won both matches, winning in straight sets on both occasions. Their first match was on a hard court in a minor tournament in 2012, and their second on the clay of Rome in 2019.

Cornet Looking for Form Ahead of Paris

Cornet has won six career titles, four of them on clay, but her last success came in 2018 at the Swiss Open, although she was a beaten finalist in the same event a year later.

She is using Strasbourg to gear up for her home Grand Slam event where she does not have a good record – in fifteen previous attempts, she has never ben beyond the second round and lost at the first round stage last year.

Nor has her form during the European clay court season been anything special.

She failed to qualify for Madrid and then was beaten in the first round of a Challenger event on French soil in Saint Malo.

Cornet did make it through the qualifying competition in Rome, but was beaten by Angelique Kerber  in straight sets in the first round there.

Pliskova in Her Second Clay Match of the Year

Kristyna is the lesser known of the Pliskova twins, and tends to be eclipsed by the achievements of her sister Karolina, although she has achieved success in her own right, winning the Tashkent Open in 2016, and finishing runner-up in her home event in Prague, on clay, the following year. She also holds the record for the most aces served in a  single match o then WTA tour.

Her record in Paris though is even worse than Cornet’s – she has only ever won  one match in the main draw there.

She has played comparatively little tennis in 2021 – since losing in the first round of the Australian Open, she qualified for Doha but then lost in the first round and again the following week in Dubai.

She then lost in the first round in Miami, and chose to miss most of the European clay court season, until she entered the Belgrade Open last week. However, her run was ended almost as soon as it was started, beaten by another French player, Oceane Dodin, the world 114, in straight sets.

Alize Cornet v Kristyna Pliskova Prediction and Tip

Cornet has won both their previous matches and, although not in the best of form herself, at least has more recent experience of playing on clay than Pliskova, who will be short of match practice on the surface.
