After a scratchy start to the tournament where Shapovalov was a set down in his first round match against Marton Fucsovics, the Canadian has managed to find his rhythm.
A fighting three-set win over Fucsovics was followed by a 6-4, 6-3 hammering of Taro Daniel in the second round that took him to the last eight.
In his latest encounter, Shapovalov crunched a straight-set win over Ricardas Berankis, needing just over an hour and a half to register that victory.
Slamming 14 aces and winning 85% of his first serve points, the Canadian did not face a single break-point in the entire match while breaking his opponent twice in his 7-6 (4), 6-3 win.
What makes interesting for the world number 14 is he was supposed to be drawn against Novak Djokovic in this semifinal but a shock loss for the world number one has left him with a golden chance to go the distance in this tournament.

Vesely Stunner for Djokovic
Coming into his quarterfinal against the world number one Novak Djokovic having won their only previous encounter, Vesely would have had a fair inkling it was probably a matter of time before the head to head turned to 1-1.
That he managed to make it 2-0 in his favour isn’t something too many would have imagined.
Not in straight sets for sure.
Because that’s exactly what happened as Vesely, ranked 123rd in the world, completed a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Djokovic in what was probably the biggest upset of not just this season but also a while more than that.
The match lasted nearly two hours and saw Vesely start off with a break of serve very first game and then again in the seventh. Up a set, Vesely then went 5-3 up in the second before Djokovic managed to find a way to break his opponent.
In the tie-breaker that followed, however, Vesely squeezed Djokovic away to complete his victory.
