Ekaterina Alexandrova rallied from a set down to beat Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska on Monday.
The Russian, who has been in decent touch this year, needed close to two hours to beat the World no. 80, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.
Both players broke each other five times in the match, but it was Alexandrova who didn’t face a single break point in the final set, while converting 2 of 6 to advance.
Alexandrova will now be facing another Ukrainian in the second round and if she wins she will advance to a third quarterfinal this year. The 27-year-old World no. 30 was a semifinalist in Charleston and had also reached the final four as a qualifier in Madrid.
A win will also mean a second quarterfinal appearance for Alexandrova in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. She had made it to the last eight in 2019.

Kalinina Beats Gadecki in Three
Anhelina Kalinina won her first tour level main draw match on grass court on Tuesday as she edged past Australia’s Olivia Gadecki in the first round.
The Ukrainian, ranked no. 35th in the world, saved 2 of 7 break points and converted 7 of 12 to win the two-hour-and-seven-minute contest 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
The 25-year-old Kalinina will be hoping to reach her third quarterfinal of the season. She had reached the last eight in Charleston and Madrid.
Kalinina had won five of her 15 ITF titles last season. A solid clay court player, she will now be looking to make an impression on grass.
