Aryna Sabalenka v Alison van Uytvanck Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and it’s tied at one match apiece. The first of these came on the grass courts of Mallorca in 2018 and van Uytvanck needed three sets to get past Sabalenka.

Sabalenka Sticking to the Script

It’s not been the best of seasons for Sabalenka but here on grass, she has stuck to script. At least so far.

After routing Kateryna Baindl in the first round in straight sets following a slightly slowish start, Sabalenka registered a 6-2, 6-3 win over Arianne Hartono in her second round match on Thursday.

The Belarusian number one was on court for an hour and 14 minutes as she romped past her opponent with much ease. The only moment of concern for Sabalenka came in the first set when up a break at 3-1, she dropped her serve to open up the possibility of a Hartono comeback.

She quickly shut that down with a break back, winning seven games in a row to go 3-0 up in the second.

And while Hartono held on to serve after that, Sabalenka closed out without offering any further break-points.

Can she continue to show the same sparkle against a player who has already taken out a seeded player?

van Uytvanck Takes Down Mertens

Elise Mertens’ form has been a slight suspect in recent times but she was still a 7/10 favourite going into her second round match against van Uytvanck. It was van Uytvanck who proceeded to not just win it but do that in fine style.

The world number 46 registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Sabalenka’s doubles partner, cruising to the quarterfinals in a mere 72 minutes.

Mertens did break van Uytvanck twice in the encounter, but both times it was immediately after she had been broken. Van Uytvanck followed that up with another break – and another in the first set – to close out the match and her seventh win in a row on grass considering all competitions.

She had earlier won the ITF tournament in Surbiton and then cruised past Tamara Korpatsch in the first round here.

Now comes a big test in the form of Sabalenka but van Uytvanck will be feeling rather good about herself coming into this one.

Sabalenka v van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip

This won’t be a straightforward one for Sabalenka, despite what the odds of 1/4 reckon. Expect there to be a substantial number of games in this one.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
