The two ladies have met each other only twice so far and the tally is currently tied at 1-1. They last met more than two years ago, in the 2016 French Open. Bertens won that match in straight sets.
Camila Seeking a Revival
The Italian is currently ranked as the World No. 28 – just one spot below her career-best singles ranking. She had a pretty interesting run last season – most notably, towards the end of the year. However, so far, she has been unable to build upon that success.
Giorgi ended the 2018 season with a winning run in Linz, clinching her second title of the season. She also had a remarkable run in Tokyo, where she reached the semifinal after defeating the likes of Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka.
As for this season, the best she has been able to do is reach the third round in the Australian Open, where she troubled Karolina Pliskova but lost to her in three sets. Camila also lost both of her fixtures in the Fed Cup against the Swiss team.
Bertens Enjoying her Time in the Top 10
The 27-year-old Dutch has proven herself as a capable player, time after time. After winning three titles last season, she has started her present season on the same note and looks highly determined to reach the top five.
She arrived at Doha after winning the Premier event in St. Petersburg a couple of weeks ago, where she defeated Donna Vekic in the final to lift her 10th singles title of her career.
Bertens was also a semifinalist in Sydney while in Brisbane and Melbourne, she lost in the second round.
The Dutch is currently the World No. 8 – her highest ranking yet, courtesy of her recent form. She made a name for herself last year when she became the runner-up in the Madrid Open and later, won the Cincinnati Open – two of the most important events on the circuit.
Bertens v Giorgi Predictions & Tips
Given her recent form and momentum, Bertens will start this fixture as the overwhelming favourite to win. However, she cannot afford to take Giorgi lightly – the Italian is a strong player who is capable of knocking out the big guns.
