Stan Wawrinka v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

In the three times that Wawrinka and Fucsovics have met on the tour, the Swiss has been victorious twice. Interestingly, all of those three matches were played in 2018 itself.

Their last meeting took place in Cincinnati Masters, where Wawrinka won 6-4, 6-3.

Wawrinka Enjoying His Comeback

Considering that around the same time last season, Wawrinka was struggling with injuries, he has done quite well to recover from it entirely and get back to the sport, firing on all cylinders.

It is an accomplishment to fall out of the top 250 and climb back into the top 50, all in a span of one year. He started this season with a quarterfinal run Doha, followed by an early loss to Milos Raonic in the Australian Open.

He had his first major breakthrough in Rotterdam, where he reached the final for the first time in more than 15 months. Despite a stunning performance by Stan in the competition, he ultimately lost to Gael Monfils.

Wawrinka’s last event was the Mexican Open, where he was defeated by Nick Kyrgios in the quarterfinal.

Fucsovics’ Career-Defining Start

The 27-year-old Hungarian is currently the World No. 31 – nine places above Wawrinka. This is his career-best singles ranking – a feat he achieved on the back of a pretty superb start to the year.

Fucsovics’ Australian Open series was quite underwhelming but he made up for it in Sofia, where he lost in the final to Daniil Medvedev. After that, he played in Rotterdam and Dubai and in both cases, he reached the quarterfinal. At the end of the day, he lost respectively to Kei Nishikori and Roger Federer.

With a win-loss record of 10-6, he is on par with Wawrinka, at least in terms of performance this year.

Stan Wawrinka v Marton Fucsovics & Predictions

While Wawrinka will start here as the favourite, he cannot afford to undermine Fucsovics. The Hungarian has presented problems for him in the past, most notably in the 2018 ATP Geneva, where he defeated Wawrinka 6-4, 6-0.

Furthermore, in their next meeting in the Canadian Open, Wawrinka had to stage a comeback and fight two thrilling tie-breakers to clinch the victory with 1-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(10). All in all, this match can go either way.

Tip: Total sets over 2.5: 7/5 (Unibet)
