Ivo Karlovic v Prajnesh Gunneswaran

This will be the first meeting between the two men with the Indian featuring in his first ever Masters tournament as well.

Karlovic, the History Man

Ivo Karlovic is enjoying a late – very late – career renaissance. The 40-year old has already rewritten the history books once this year when he reached the Maharashtra Open final – the oldest man to reach an ATP senior final since the great Ken Rosewall back in 1977.

He then followed up that feat by becoming the first man over 40 to win a senior ATP tour match since Jimmy Connors back in 1995 when he defeated Matthew Ebden here on Thursday at the Indian Wells Masters. But not content with that, he put out compatriot Borna Coric, the 11th seed in straight sets on Saturday.

With the inexperienced Gunneswaran facing him on Monday, he must strongly fancy his chances of reaching the fourth round, and perhaps further.

Gunneswaran – In Completely Unchartered Territory

Gunneswaran may be the top Indian singles player, but to reach the third round of an event like Indian Wells is a completely new experience for him.

This is a man who qualified for his first Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne in January, and broke into the world’s top 100 only last month.

To even get in the main draw here he had to come through the qualifying tournament, but, having done so, enjoyed an excellent straight sets win over Benoit Paire of France on Thursday. Better still was to come on Saturday, when he put on the number 17 seed, Nikolaz Bashilashvili of Georgia in a three setter.

The pressure will be squarely off his shoulders after having performed this well and he could probably use that to go out attacking in this encounter.

Karlovic v Gunneswaran Predictions & Tips

Karlovic starts as favourite with the bookmakers at 4/7, whilst Gunneswaran is on offer at 18/11 (bet365) . Whilst neither man would have expected to have reached this stage of the tournament, the Croatian is the man setting the records this week, and can be considered likely to continue his run.

Tip: Gunneswaran to win a set: 4/6 (betway)
