Karolina Pliskova v Alize Cornet Head to Head
Pliskova and Cornet have met only thrice on the tour and the Czech currently leads with 2-1. She has won their last two meetings, with the most recent one coming in the 2018 WTA Doha.
Pliskova Marches On
Like a well-oiled machine, Karolina Pliskova has been marching on relentlessly on the WTA Tour. With a win-loss record of 16-4 as of the Indian Wells Open, she has been among the most efficient players on the tour this year.
She has reached the quarterfinal in her last three events, including the Australian Open, WTA Dubai, and Indian Wells Open. The present Stuttgart Open champion has been defeated only by the likes of Belinda Bencic, Su-Wei Hsieh, Simona Halep, and Naomi Osaka.
More interesting than that, Pliskova has been able to keep her energy levels up constantly, without falling prey to fatigue or injuries. Even in Miami, she carried that same momentum forward, starting with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Petra Martic.
Cornet Looking to Build Some Rhythm
The 29-year-old Frenchwoman started the year well with a semifinal run in WTA Hobart. However, after that brilliant performance, she moved on to lose early in the Australian Open, St. Petersburg, WTA Dubai, and Indian Wells.
She didn’t have much luck in the 125K Series event in Guadalajara either, losing in the first round to Sofya Zhuk of Russia.
In Miami, the reigning Swiss Open champion did manage to turn her poor form around, starting with a hard three-set win over Vera Lapko. In the next round, she dispatched the number 30 seed Mihaela Buzarenscu 7-6(7), 6-1.
Cornet is clearly not among the most consistent players on the tour. Since the Rogers Cup last year, this is only the third time that she has reached the third round on the WTA Tour.
Karolina Pliskova v Alize Cornet Predictions & Tips
This should prove to be a win for Pliskova. Most of her defeats this season have been at the hands of players who have been equally consistent and were in a remarkable form. It is hard to imagine Cornet stopping Pliskova’s rise to prominence here.
