Barbora Krejcikova v Ana Bogdan Head to Head

The pair have met once before, in the quarter-final of Dubai last year, Bogdan winning in straight sets.

Krejcikova, Beaten Finalist in Dubai

Although previously better known as a doubles player, Krejcikova is now starting to enjoy some success in singles as well and surprised many by reaching the final in Dubai, beating Maria Sakkari in the process, before losing to Garbine Muguruza in the final.

She then travelled to Miami, but lost in the second round to Iga Swiatek.

In the first round in Istanbul, she faced Cagla Buyukakcay, the world 177, but was made to struggle by the Turkish wildcard, particularly in the first set. That saw a break of serve each, resulting in a tie-break, which the Turk won 10 – 8.

However, the match turned on its head early in the second set as Krejcikova forced two breaks. She gave one of them back, but was in control by this stage, and she broke . Buyukakcay once more to level the match.

The Turk’s resistance was broken by now, and Krejcikova breezed through the third set without dropping a game.

Bogdan Overcame Japanese Opposition in First Round

Bogdan had little form in 2021 coming into Istanbul, having failed to get beyond the second round of any WTA event she had entered and losing her last two matches in Dubai and St. Petersburg.

But she put an end to that sequence with a  straight sets win over Nao Hibino, the world 82, on Tuesday.

The match began with the pair swapping service breaks, but Bogdan then broke again, and although Hibino saved two set points, Bogdan forced two more, and converted the second of them to take the set.

The Romanian then broke again at the start of the second set, and, although Hibino hit back with a break of her, she surrendered her own serve again next game.

Serving to stay in the match, the pressure proved too much for Hibino and she gave up her serve for what proved to be the final time.

Krejcikova v Bogdan Prediction and Tip

Bogdan may have won their previous encounter, but Krejcikova has improved as a singles player since then. The Czech had her struggles in her first round match, but having got that out of her system, should be prepared for the challenge of Bogdan.

Tip: Krejcikova to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
